Staff Training
IHVC has been accredited by AAHA for 26 years. AAHA accreditation helps ensure veterinary hospitals adhere to the highest standards of care for their patients. Continuing education for all team members is vital to this endeavor. The state of Virginia requires minimum continuing education (CE) hours for veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians (LVT) only. AAHA encourages annual CE hours for ALL team members which exceeds those required by the state.
Are You Smarter Than an IHVC Team Member?
Check Out the Theme for Each Month Below. Take our quizes to see how you measure up!
As part of the regular staff training IHVC has all-team meetings every other week. A different subject or category of veterinary medicine (inspired by AAHA) is tackled each month. One meeting a month is centered around hands-on training; while the other meeting focuses on improving our knowledge base. In an effort to make the training more enjoyable we initiated a new campaign in March 2019: Peer-to-Peer Training and Team-Based Knowledge Activities.
X is for X-Ray
March 2019
Theme: Radiographs
Description: All team members participated in hands-on x-ray training in the first half of the month. The second meeting of the month was an all out competition among the staff to see which group knew the most about x-rays and x-ray safety. Would you have won the competition? Take the test below to find out.
L is for Laboratory
April 2019
Theme: In-House and Outside Laboratory Protocols
Description: We started off the month with an Easter egg hunt in which the team members searched the hospital for specific lab supplies and found toy-stuffed Easter eggs in the process. We also reviewed techniques for running common in-house blood work. We finished off the month with an all-out battle of the minds. Do you know your way around an in-house lab at a veterinary hospital? Check out the quiz below and find out.
